日光の豆腐職人 | The Tofu Maker of Nikko

第一章 | Chapter One: 霊山の水 (Water of the Sacred Mountain)

日光の山麓に、小さな豆腐屋があった。

At the foot of Nikko's mountains stood a small tofu shop.

四十七歳の絹子は、この店で三代目として豆腐を作り続けてきた。ふくよかな体に、大豆の香りを纏った白い肌。

Forty-seven-year-old Kinuko had been making tofu here as the third generation. Her full figure and white skin carrying the scent of soybeans.

「日光の豆腐は、この山の水が命。他の場所では、この味は出せません」

"Nikko tofu owes its life to this mountain's water. This flavor cannot be achieved elsewhere."

第二章 | Chapter Two: 夜明け前の仕込み (Pre-Dawn Preparation)

精進料理の研究者が、取材のために訪れた。

A researcher of Buddhist cuisine came for coverage.

絹子は彼を早朝の作業場に招いた。まだ薄暗い中、大豆を挽く音が響く。

Kinuko invited him to the workshop at early dawn. In the dim light, the sound of grinding soybeans echoed.

「豆腐作りは、夜明け前から始まります。この時間の静けさが、豆腐に宿るのです」

"Tofu making begins before dawn. The quietness of this hour dwells in the tofu."

彼女の豊満な腕が、重い石臼を回していた。

Her plump arms turned the heavy stone mill.

第三章 | Chapter Three: にがりの秘密 (Secret of Nigari)

「にがりを入れる瞬間が、一番大切」絹子は囁いた。

"The moment of adding nigari is most important," Kinuko whispered.

湯気の中で、彼女は慎重ににがりを注いだ。

In the steam, she carefully poured the nigari.

「この量、この温度、この速さ。全ては、手の感覚で決めます」

"This amount, this temperature, this speed. Everything is decided by touch."

彼女の汗ばんだ胸元が、湯気に包まれて艶やかだった。

Her perspiring bosom was lustrous, wrapped in steam.

第四章 | Chapter Four: 朝の湯豆腐 (Morning Hot Tofu)

夜が明け、絹子は出来立ての豆腐を湯豆腐にした。

As dawn broke, Kinuko made yudofu from freshly made tofu.

「これは、私が一番好きな食べ方」彼女は微笑んだ。

"This is my favorite way to eat it," she smiled.

二人で縁側に座り、湯豆腐を分け合った。

They sat on the veranda and shared the hot tofu.

「また、日光に来てくださいね。次は、もっと特別な豆腐をお作りします」

"Please come to Nikko again. Next time, I'll make even more special tofu."

日光の朝日が、二人の約束を祝福していた。

The Nikko sunrise blessed their promise.
