The Dairy Farmer of Inner Mongolia
(Vast Sky, Endless Plains)
On the Hulunbuir grassland of Inner Mongolia, beneath blue skies and white clouds lies endless green.
In a yurt deep in the grassland lived a Mongolian woman named Qiqige, forty-seven, with a full and sturdy figure, able to ride horses, milk cows, and make milk tea.
"Grassland women must be as strong as horses," she often said, "and as warm as milk tea."
(A Guest from Afar)
That summer, a documentary director from Shanghai came to film grassland life.
"Sister Qiqige," he drank the milk tea she made, "this flavor is so authentic."
Qiqige sat across from him, her Mongolian robe wrapping her full curves: "This is my family's ancestral recipe. Want to learn?"
He nodded. She stood up and walked to his side, her full figure emanating the scent of milk and grass.
(Yurt Under the Stars)
That night, the grassland stars were especially brilliant.
"In Mongolian culture," she sang for him by the bonfire, "guests are sent by heaven."
The song ended. She stood up and untied the belt of her robe.
"Grassland nights are cold," she whispered, her full figure in the firelight like an ancient goddess. "Let me warm you."
On the felt of the yurt, they were as free as two wild horses.
(The Long Song Echoes)
"What will you film?" she asked in the morning, while milking the sheep.
He watched her full figure busy in the morning light: "I'll film the beauty of the grassland, but the most beautiful shots I'll keep for myself."
She laughed and handed him a bowl of fresh sheep's milk: "Then you must come often. The grassland's door is always open for you."
On the grasslands of Inner Mongolia, some warmth is richer than milk tea...
