祇園の花見小路に、老舗のお茶屋があった。

四十九歳の千代は、この店を四代目女将として守り続けてきた。ふくよかな体に、上品な京言葉、そして客の心を見抜く鋭い眼。

Chiyo led him to the inner zashiki. Gold-leaf sliding doors flickered in candlelight.

「この座敷では、百年以上の物語が紡がれてきました」

"In this room, stories have been woven for over a hundred years."

夜が明け、祇園は静まり返っていた。

As dawn broke, Gion was quiet.

「この時間の祇園が、一番好きどす」千代は微笑んだ。

"I love Gion best at this hour," Chiyo smiled.

彼女の温かい手が、彼の手に触れた。

Her warm hand touched his.

「また、お越しやす。あなたは、もう一見さんやおへん」

"Please come again. You are no longer a first-time visitor."

祇園の朝霧が、二人の秘密を包んでいた。
