第一章 | Chapter One: 篝火の夜 (Night of Bonfire)

岐阜の長良川に、鵜飼いの舟が浮かんでいた。

On Gifu's Nagara River, a cormorant fishing boat floated.

四十八歳の鵜子は、この地で唯一の女性鵜匠だった。ふくよかな体に、鵜縄を操る逞しい腕、そして鵜を愛する優しい瞳。

Forty-eight-year-old Uko was the only female cormorant master in this region. Her full figure, sturdy arms handling the cormorant ropes, and gentle eyes loving the birds.

「鵜飼いは、千三百年の伝統。私は、その歴史を背負っています」

"Cormorant fishing has thirteen hundred years of tradition. I carry that history on my shoulders."

第二章 | Chapter Two: 鵜との絆 (Bond with the Cormorants)

ドキュメンタリー監督が、撮影のために訪れた。

A documentary director came for filming.

鵜子は彼を鵜小屋に案内した。十二羽の海鵜が、彼女を見つめている。

Uko led him to the cormorant house. Twelve sea cormorants gazed at her.

「鵜は、私の家族。一羽一羽に、名前があります」

"The cormorants are my family. Each one has a name."

彼女の豊満な手が、鵜の頭を優しく撫でた。

Her plump hands gently stroked the cormorant's head.

第三章 | Chapter Three: 篝火の下で (Under the Bonfire)

「今夜は、特別な鵜飼いをお見せします」鵜子は囁いた。

"Tonight, I'll show you special cormorant fishing," Uko whispered.

舟の篝火が、川面を照らしていた。

The boat's bonfire illuminated the river surface.

「この炎に、魚が集まってきます。そして、鵜が捕まえるのです」

"Fish gather to this flame. Then the cormorants catch them."

彼女の顔が、篝火に照らされて神秘的だった。

Her face was mystical, illuminated by the bonfire.

第四章 | Chapter Four: 朝の長良川 (Morning Nagara River)

夜が明け、鵜飼いが終わった。

As dawn broke, the cormorant fishing ended.

「鵜も私も、今夜はよく働きました」鵜子は微笑んだ。

"Both the cormorants and I worked well tonight," Uko smiled.

彼女の温かい手が、彼に焼きたての鮎を差し出した。

Her warm hands offered him freshly grilled sweetfish.

「また、長良川に来てください。夏の夜の鵜飼いを、一緒に見ましょう」

"Please come to the Nagara River again. Let's watch summer night cormorant fishing together."

長良川の朝が、二人の約束を照らしていた。

The Nagara River morning illuminated their promise.
