The Calligraphy Teacher of Beijing

(The Courtyard House)

Deep in the hutongs of Beijing, in a traditional courtyard house, lived a calligraphy teacher who had been widowed for many years.

Zhou Meihua, fifty years old, with a full and rounded figure, was a renowned calligrapher in the capital. Her students spread across China and abroad, but few knew of her most intimate teaching methods.

"Hold the brush as you would hold a woman," she often said, "gently, yet firmly."

(The New Student)

He was a young businessman from Hong Kong, wanting to learn traditional calligraphy to cultivate his mind and character.

"Roll up your sleeves," Meihua walked behind him, her ample bosom pressing lightly against his back.

Her hand covered his, guiding the brush's movement. "This character '永' (eternity) contains all the brush techniques."

He felt the warmth of her body through the thin fabric, his heartbeat quickening involuntarily.

(The Rhythm of Ink)

One evening, weeks later, she invited him to stay for tea.

"Do you know why the ancients said 'calligraphy and painting share the same origin'?" she asked, gently spreading ink on rice paper.

He shook his head.

She smiled, undoing the buttons of her qipao: "Because both require feeling the beauty of lines."

She guided his hand to her full body: "Come, feel what true curves are."

That night, he wrote the most beautiful poetry upon her body.

(Legacy)

"Teacher, I..." In the morning, he didn't know how to begin.

She pressed a finger lightly to his lips: "Within this courtyard, you are my student. Beyond that gate, we each have our own lives."

She handed him a scroll: "This is my gift to you."

He unrolled it to find the character "缘" (fate/destiny).

"All encounters in this world are fate," she said. "Will you come again?"

He smiled, rolling up the scroll: "Teacher Meihua's lessons are ones I will never finish learning."
