The Terracotta Restorer of Xi'an

(Thousand-Year Slumber)

In the underground restoration room of Xi'an's Terracotta Army Museum, the lights burned bright.

Wang Shufen, forty-nine, was one of China's top terracotta restoration experts. Her figure was full, yet her fingers were deft enough to bring shattered pottery back to life.

"Every terracotta warrior is unique," she always said, "just like every person."

(A Late-Night Visitor)

That late night, a young American archaeologist was granted access to observe the restoration room.

"Teacher Wang," he marveled at her skill, "your hands are simply magical."

Shufen raised her head, a mischievous glint in her eyes: "Would you like to feel the magic of these hands?"

She walked to his side, her full body emanating the fragrance of clay and time.

(Clay and Fire)

"Making terracotta requires clay and fire," she whispered, undoing the buttons of her work clothes.

"And restoration," she guided his hand to her ample bosom, "requires patience and warmth."

His breathing quickened: "Teacher Wang..."

"Call me Shufen." She pushed him onto the work table, her full body covering his. "Tonight, let me restore you."

Under the gaze of thousand-year-old warriors, they merged like clay and fire.

(Eternity)

"Do you know why the terracotta warriors have survived for two thousand years?" she asked as dawn approached.

"Why?"

"Because they were buried underground, far from worldly troubles." She gently stroked his face. "Some secrets should be kept the same way."

He held her hand: "I will keep this secret."

She smiled: "Every fifteenth of the month, I work late here."
