The Djellaba Maker of Marrakech
Chapter One
I have made djellabas in Marrakech for forty years.
A buyer for an international fashion store came.
"I'm looking for authentic djellabas."
Chapter Two
He was in his fifties, elegant, with refined taste.
"My djellabas are one hundred percent authentic."
"I want to see how you make them."
Chapter Three
I let him into the workshop.
"Each djellaba takes a week."
"Quality needs time."
Chapter Four
"Who taught you?"
"My mother and grandmother... the craft is in my blood."
"And have you taught anyone?"
Chapter Five
"My daughters prefer modern clothes."
"Sad... this art must continue."
"That's what I fear."
Chapter Six
"Your husband?"
"He died ten years ago."
"And I'm divorced... life is hard alone."
Chapter Seven
That night, among fabrics and threads.
"Your body is like Moroccan silk."
"And you are like golden thread."
Chapter Eight
He ordered my djellabas for his stores.
And asked for my heart for himself.
"I will return... not just for work."
Conclusion
The djellaba covers the body.
And love covers the soul.
Stitch by stitch, we sewed our story.
