The Storyteller of Marrakech

Chapter One

I have told stories in Jemaa el-Fna square for forty years.

People come and go.

But she stayed until the end.

Chapter Two

A woman in her forty-five, with listening eyes.

"Your stories are enchanting," she said.

"And you are an enchanting listener."

Chapter Three

She came every night to hear a new story.

"Do you have a love story?" she asked me.

"All my stories are about love."

Chapter Four

"But I want a real story."

"Real stories are not told... they are lived."

She looked at me with understanding.

Chapter Five

After the square closed, we walked in the alleys.

"Why do you live alone?" I asked her.

"Because I haven't found a man who knows words."

Chapter Six

"I know all the words."

"Then let me hear the word I'm looking for."

"My beloved..." I whispered.

Chapter Seven

In my old house in the medina.

I told her my personal story.

A story not told only with words.

Chapter Eight

She became my wife and my listener.

Every night I tell her a story.

And every night we live a new story.

Conclusion

Stories never end.

As long as there is someone to tell and someone to listen.

And we tell our story every night.
