Yordanos' shipments needed extra attention. Extra time. Extra meetings.
"You're doing this on purpose," Chiamaka accused.
"Perhaps." The thick Eritrean executive smiled. "Does it matter?"
"Regulations matter."
"So do I."
The meetings moved from offices to restaurants to Yordanos' penthouse overlooking the Mersey.
"This is bribery," Chiamaka said, accepting wine.
"This is dinner. The bribery comes later."
"What kind of bribery?"
"The best kind."
Liverpool's lights sparkled below as they came together.
Yordanos commanded the bedroom like she commanded boardrooms—with absolute confidence.
"You've passed every inspection," she whispered.
"I haven't inspected everything."
"Then be thorough."
The inspection was extremely thorough.
Yordanos' thick body yielded secrets under examination. Her sounds echoed off the penthouse windows.
"Approved," Chiamaka murmured.
"Full marks?"
"Pending further review."
"I look forward to it."
The shipping company's compliance improved dramatically.
So did Chiamaka's personal life.
"Conflict of interest," she called it.
"Aligned interests," Yordanos corrected. "Completely aligned."
