الفصل الأول | Chapter One
أَصْنَعُ القَوَارِبَ التَّقْلِيدِيَّةَ فِي العَرَائِشِ.
I make traditional boats in Larache.
عِنْدَ مَصَبِّ نَهْرِ اللُّوكُّوسِ.
At the mouth of the Loukkos river.
جَاءَتْ صَحَفِيَّةٌ تَكْتُبُ عَنِ الحِرَفِ.
A journalist came writing about crafts.
الفصل الثاني | Chapter Two
كَانَتْ فِي الأَرْبَعِينَ، ذَكِيَّةً، مُهْتَمَّةً.
She was in her forties, intelligent, interested.
"هَذِهِ الحِرْفَةُ تَمُوتُ." قُلْتُ لَهَا.
"This craft is dying." I told her.
"لِهَذَا أَكْتُبُ عَنْهَا."
"That's why I'm writing about it."
الفصل الثالث | Chapter Three
رَاقَبَتْنِي وَأَنَا أَبْنِي القَارِبَ.
She watched me building the boat.
"كَيْفَ تَعْرِفُ أَيْنَ تَضَعُ كُلَّ قِطْعَةٍ؟"
"How do you know where to put each piece?"
"الخَشَبُ يُخْبِرُنِي."
"The wood tells me."
الفصل الرابع | Chapter Four
"الخَشَبُ يَتَكَلَّمُ؟"
"Wood talks?"
"لِمَنْ يَسْمَعُ... نَعَمْ."
"To those who listen... yes."
"عَلِّمْنِي الاِسْتِمَاعَ."
"Teach me to listen."
الفصل الخامس | Chapter Five
وَضَعْتُ يَدَهَا عَلَى الخَشَبِ.
I placed her hand on the wood.
"أَغْمِضِي عَيْنَيْكِ... أَحِسِّي."
"Close your eyes... feel."
"أَشْعُرُ بِشَيْءٍ..."
"I feel something..."
الفصل السادس | Chapter Six
"هَذَا قَلْبُ الخَشَبِ."
"That's the heart of the wood."
"وَقَلْبُكَ؟ هَلْ أَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ أَشْعُرَ بِهِ؟"
"And your heart? Can I feel it?"
صَمَتُّ لَحْظَةً.
I was silent for a moment.
الفصل السابع | Chapter Seven
تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةَ، فِي الوَرْشَةِ عَلَى النَّهْرِ.
That night, in the workshop on the river.
"جَسَدُكَ كَالقَارِبِ... قَوِيٌّ وَجَمِيلٌ."
"Your body is like a boat... strong and beautiful."
"وَأَنْتِ المَاءُ الَّذِي يَحْمِلُهُ."
"And you are the water that carries it."
الفصل الثامن | Chapter Eight
نَشَرَتْ مَقَالَهَا وَأَصْبَحَ مَشْهُورًا.
She published her article and it became famous.
جَاءَ زَبَائِنُ جُدُدٌ لِقَوَارِبِي.
New customers came for my boats.
"أَنْتِ أَنْقَذْتِ حِرْفَتِي."
"You saved my craft."
الخاتمة | Conclusion
القَوَارِبُ تَحْتَاجُ مَاءً لِتَعِيشَ.
Boats need water to live.
وَأَنَا اِحْتَجْتُهَا لِأَعِيشَ.
And I needed her to live.
حُبٌّ وُلِدَ عِنْدَ مَصَبِّ النَّهْرِ.
A love born at the river mouth.
