Georgetown Gem

by Anastasia Chrome|2 min read|
"Jewelry designer Natasha crafts pieces from Guyana's gold, and when gemologist Oliver comes to certify her stones, he discovers the most precious gem is the woman who shapes them."

Natasha's workshop sparkled. Gold dust, raw gems, finished pieces that could crown royalty.

Oliver examined each stone, professional, thorough. But his eyes kept returning to her.

"These are exceptional," he said.

"So mi been told." She smiled. "The gems or mi?"

"I meant the gems."

"Yuh sure?"

Certification took days. The collection was large. The attraction was larger.

"Yuh married?" she asked on day three.

"No. You?"

"No time for men." She held a diamond to the light. "Mi married to mi craft."

"Even craft workers need breaks."

"What kind of break yuh suggesting?"

The kind that happened in her workshop after hours. That thick body adorned only in gold chains she'd made herself.

"Is this professional?" she gasped.

"Not even close."

"Good." She pulled him down. "Mi tired of professional."

"Yes! Oliver! Right there!"

Surrounded by treasure, becoming each other's greatest find.

"Don't stop! Yuh the diamond mi been seeking!"

The certification was flawless. The collection debuted at Christie's. Natasha became famous.

But the best piece in her collection wasn't for sale.

"Yuh stay in Guyana?" she asked.

"I stay with you."

"Same thing now."

Oliver opened a Georgetown branch of his firm.
