الفصل الأول | Chapter One
أَعْتَنِي بِنَوَافِيرِ فَاسَ القَدِيمَةِ.
I tend the ancient fountains of Fez.
وَظِيفَةٌ وَرِثْتُهَا عَنْ أَبِي وَجَدِّي.
A job I inherited from my father and grandfather.
جَاءَتْ مُؤَرِّخَةٌ تَدْرُسُ نِظَامَ المَاءِ.
A historian came studying the water system.
الفصل الثاني | Chapter Two
كَانَتْ فِي الأَرْبَعِينَ، مُهْتَمَّةً بِالتَّفَاصِيلِ.
She was in her forties, interested in details.
"نِظَامُ مِيَاهِ فَاسَ عُمْرُهُ أَلْفُ سَنَةٍ!"
"The Fez water system is a thousand years old!"
"وَأَنَا أَحْفَظُهُ."
"And I preserve it."
الفصل الثالث | Chapter Three
أَخَذْتُهَا إِلَى القَنَوَاتِ تَحْتَ الأَرْضِ.
I took her to the underground channels.
"هَذِهِ هَنْدَسَةٌ مُذْهِلَةٌ!"
"This is amazing engineering!"
"أَجْدَادُنَا كَانُوا عَبَاقِرَةً."
"Our ancestors were geniuses."
الفصل الرابع | Chapter Four
"لِمَاذَا اِخْتَرْتَ هَذَا العَمَلَ؟"
"Why did you choose this work?"
"لَمْ أَخْتَرْهُ... هُوَ اِخْتَارَنِي."
"I didn't choose it... it chose me."
"هَذَا جَمِيلٌ."
"That's beautiful."
الفصل الخامس | Chapter Five
"وَأَنْتِ؟ لِمَاذَا تَدْرُسِينَ المَاءَ؟"
"And you? Why do you study water?"
"لِأَنَّ المَاءَ حَيَاةٌ."
"Because water is life."
"نَعَمْ... وَأَنْتِ أَحْيَيْتِنِي."
"Yes... and you gave me life."
الفصل السادس | Chapter Six
نَظَرَتْ إِلَيَّ. "مَاذَا تَعْنِي؟"
She looked at me. "What do you mean?"
"زَوْجَتِي مَاتَتْ... كُنْتُ أَعِيشُ كَالنَّافُورَةِ الجَافَّةِ."
"My wife died... I was living like a dry fountain."
"وَالآنَ؟"
"And now?"
الفصل السابع | Chapter Seven
"الآنَ أَشْعُرُ بِالمَاءِ يَجْرِي فِيَّ."
"Now I feel water flowing in me."
تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةَ، بِجَانِبِ نَافُورَةٍ قَدِيمَةٍ.
That night, beside an ancient fountain.
"جَسَدُكِ يَتَدَفَّقُ كَالمَاءِ."
"Your body flows like water."
الفصل الثامن | Chapter Eight
نَشَرَتْ كِتَابًا عَنْ مِيَاهِ فَاسَ.
She published a book about Fez waters.
وَذَكَرَتْنِي فِيهِ.
And mentioned me in it.
"لِحَارِسِ النَّوَافِيرِ الَّذِي عَلَّمَنِي أَنَّ المَاءَ حُبٌّ."
"To the fountain keeper who taught me water is love."
الخاتمة | Conclusion
النَّوَافِيرُ لَا تَتَوَقَّفُ.
Fountains never stop.
وَحُبُّنَا يَجْرِي كَالمَاءِ.
And our love flows like water.
قَطْرَةً قَطْرَةً، إِلَى الأَبَدِ.
Drop by drop, forever.
