The Wind Lover of Essaouira

Chapter One

She came to Essaouira searching for the wind.

They told her our winds heal broken hearts.

She found me on the fishermen's beach.

Chapter Two

I am Youssef, a fisherman for forty years.

I have seen the sea in all its moods.

But her eyes were deeper than the ocean.

Chapter Three

"Teach me fishing," she said.

"The sea is dangerous for women."

"I am not like other women."

Chapter Four

I took her in my boat at dawn.

She wore a white dress flying with the wind.

"You are like a sail..." I told her.

Chapter Five

In the middle of the sea, where no one could see us.

"Why did you really come here?"

"Escaping from a husband who doesn't understand me."

Chapter Six

"And what are you looking for?"

"A man who looks at me the way you do."

I cast the nets and approached her.

Chapter Seven

In the swaying boat, to the rhythm of the waves.

We discovered that the sea is not the only deep thing.

"Your body is like the sea... I want to drown in it."

Chapter Eight

She has returned every summer since then.

She says she comes for the wind.

But I know the truth.

Conclusion

The wind carries everything in Essaouira.

Lovers' secrets and the sea's whispers.

And our story that will never end.
