الفصل الأول | Chapter One

فِي صَالُونِ السَّيِّدَةِ الثَّرِيَّةِ، اِجْتَمَعَ المُعَلِّمُونَ.

In the wealthy lady's salon, the teachers gathered.

"أَهْلًا بِالمُسْلِمِينَ،" قَالَتْ بِصَوْتٍ نَاعِمٍ. "أَنْتُمُ المُفَكِّرُونَ الَّذِينَ طَلَبْتُهُمْ."

"Welcome, Muslims," she said with a soft voice. "You are the thinkers I requested."

كَانَتْ فِي الخَمْسِينَ، جَسَدُهَا مُمْتَلِئٌ وَحَضُورُهَا قَوِيٌّ.

She was in her fifties, her body full and her presence strong.

This plural is formed by adding a suffix to masculine nouns denoting rational beings:

المُعَلِّمُونَ (al-mu'allimūn) - the teachers (nominative)

"يُرْفَعُ بِالوَاوِ وَيُنْصَبُ وَيُجَرُّ بِالياءِ."

"It is made nominative with wāw and accusative/genitive with yā'."

"هَلْ 'مُعَلِّمُونَ' وَ'مَاهِرُونَ' كِلَاهُمَا جَمْعُ مُذَكَّرٍ سَالِمٌ؟"

"Are both 'teachers' and 'skilled' sound masculine plurals?"

"نَعَمْ! الصِّفَةُ تَتْبَعُ المَوْصُوفَ."

"Yes! The adjective follows what it describes."

"The verb with the masculine plural takes the collective wāw."

"المُعَلِّمُونَ يَكْتُبُونَ، المُعَلِّمُونَ كَتَبُوا..."

"The teachers write, the teachers wrote..."

الفصل السابع | Chapter Seven

"هَلْ سَتَبْقَوْنَ مَعِي؟" سَأَلَتْ.

"We will stay..." they said in one voice.

وَتَعَلَّمُوا أَنَّ العِلْمَ لَيْسَ فَقَطْ فِي الكُتُبِ.

And they learned that knowledge is not only in books.

حذف النون من جمع المذكر السالم - Dropping the Nūn

النون تُحذف في حالتين:

الإضافة: مُعَلِّمُو المَدْرَسَةِ (not مُعَلِّمُونَ المَدْرَسَةِ)
الأفعال الخمسة المجزومة: لَمْ يَكْتُبُوا (not لَمْ يَكْتُبُونَ)

هَلْ سَتَبْقَوْنَ = Will you (pl.) stay? لَمْ تَبْقَوْا = You (pl.) didn't stay (jussive - نون dropped)

الخاتمة | Conclusion

فِي ذَلِكَ الصَّالُونِ، تَعَلَّمَ المُعَلِّمُونَ دَرْسًا جَدِيدًا.

In that salon, the teachers learned a new lesson.

وَتَعَلَّمَتِ السَّيِّدَةُ أَنَّ الجَمْعَ أَقْوَى مِنَ المُفْرَدِ.

And the lady learned that the plural is stronger than the singular.

وَبَقُوا مَعَهَا حَتَّى الفَجْرِ، يُعَلِّمُونَهَا أَسْرَارَ اللُّغَةِ.

And they stayed with her until dawn, teaching her the secrets of language.
