Camberwell Chronicle

by Anastasia Chrome|2 min read|
"Local newspaper editor Pauline covers every story in Camberwell—but when new journalist Marcus joins her paper, she writes a private story just for two."

The Camberwell Chronicle was a two-person operation. Pauline had run it alone for twenty years. Now she had help.

Marcus was young, eager, and couldn't stop staring at his new editor. She was thick, fiftyish, and absolutely magnetic.

"Eyes on the story, not on mi," she said. "Though mi appreciate it."

They worked late. Then later. The deadline pushed them together in the tiny office.

"Yuh wife won't mind?" she asked.

"No wife."

"Girlfriend?"

"No one."

"Waste." She took off her glasses. "A man like yuh should be taken care of."

"Are you offering?"

"Mi older than yuh mother, probably."

"You didn't answer my question."

She answered with action. That thick body pressed him against her desk, experience in every kiss.

"Mi haven't done dis in years," she breathed.

"Neither have I. We'll figure it out."

They figured it out beautifully.

On her desk, surrounded by newspapers and history, she moved with wisdom no young woman could match.

"Yes! Marcus! Right there!"

Age had taught her exactly what she wanted. Youth gave him the stamina to provide it.

"Don't stop! Give mi everything!"

The Chronicle kept publishing. But now it had a different energy.

"Our readers love the new writing," Pauline said.

"Must be the inspiration."

"Must be." She pulled him close. "Deadline's not till Friday. We have time."

Camberwell's chronicle continues. So does theirs.

She writes the headlines. He writes the features. Together, they write everything.

Including their future.

Age is just a number.

Passion is the real story.
