The Mountain Shepherd of the Atlas
الفصل الأول | Chapter One
أَرْعَى الغَنَمَ فِي جِبَالِ الأَطْلَسِ مُنْذُ خَمْسٍ وَأَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةً.
I have herded sheep in the Atlas Mountains for forty-five years.
أَعْرِفُ كُلَّ مَمَرٍّ وَكُلَّ قِمَّةٍ.
I know every pass and every peak.
جَاءَتْ مُصَوِّرَةُ حَيَاةٍ بَرِّيَّةٍ.
A wildlife photographer came.
الفصل الثاني | Chapter Two
كَانَتْ فِي الخَمْسِينَ، شُجَاعَةً تَتَسَلَّقُ وَحْدَهَا.
She was in her fifties, brave climbing alone.
"أَبْحَثُ عَنِ النُّسُورِ الذَّهَبِيَّةِ!"
"I'm searching for golden eagles!"
"أَعْرِفُ أَعْشَاشَهَا."
"I know their nests."
الفصل الثالث | Chapter Three
أَخَذْتُهَا إِلَى قِمَمٍ لَا يَعْرِفُهَا أَحَدٌ.
I took her to peaks nobody knows.
"يَا لَلْجَمَالِ! الجِبَالُ تَلْمَسُ السَّمَاءَ."
"How beautiful! Mountains touch the sky."
"وَالنُّسُورُ تَطِيرُ بَيْنَهُمَا."
"And eagles fly between them."
الفصل الرابع | Chapter Four
صَوَّرَتِ النُّسُورَ وَالغَنَمَ وَالجِبَالَ.
She photographed eagles, sheep, and mountains.
"وَأَنْتَ؟ هَلْ أُصَوِّرُكَ؟"
"And you? May I photograph you?"
"أَنَا لَسْتُ جَمِيلًا."
"I'm not beautiful."
الفصل الخامس | Chapter Five
"أَنْتَ جُزْءٌ مِنْ هَذَا الجَمَالِ."
"You are part of this beauty."
"زَوْجَتِي كَانَتْ تَقُولُ ذَلِكَ... قَبْلَ أَنْ تَمُوتَ."
"My wife used to say that... before she died."
"كَانَتْ مُحِقَّةً."
"She was right."
الفصل السادس | Chapter Six
"تَعِيشِينَ فِي المَدِينَةِ... لِمَاذَا تَأْتِينَ إِلَى هُنَا؟"
"You live in the city... why do you come here?"
"لِأَنَّ المَدِينَةَ تَخْنُقُنِي."
"Because the city suffocates me."
"الجِبَالُ تُحَرِّرُ."
"Mountains liberate."
الفصل السابع | Chapter Seven
تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةَ، فِي كُوخِي عَلَى الجَبَلِ.
That night, in my hut on the mountain.
"جَسَدُكِ دَافِئٌ فِي بَرْدِ القِمَّةِ."
"Your body is warm in the peak's cold."
"وَأَنْتَ قَوِيٌّ كَالصَّخْرِ."
"And you are strong like rock."
الفصل الثامن | Chapter Eight
نَشَرَتْ صُوَرَهَا فِي مَجَلَّاتٍ عَالَمِيَّةٍ.
She published her photos in international magazines.
وَصُورَتِي بَيْنَهَا.
And my photo among them.
"رَاعٍ وَنُسُورٌ... وَحُبٌّ فَوْقَ الغُيُومِ."
"A shepherd and eagles... and love above clouds."
الخاتمة | Conclusion
الجِبَالُ صَامِتَةٌ لَكِنَّهَا تَتَحَدَّثُ.
Mountains are silent but they speak.
وَحُبُّنَا كَلِمَاتُهَا.
And our love is their words.
أَعْلَى مِنَ القِمَمِ، أَعْمَقُ مِنَ الوِدْيَانِ.
Higher than peaks, deeper than valleys.
