פרק ראשון | Chapter One
Yael brought him home for Shabbat. "תתנהג," she warned. "Behave."
Then he met her mother. Leah. Forty-eight. Covered hair. Modest dress. Stunning.
"ברוכים הבאים." "Welcome."
"תודה." His voice cracked.
פרק שני | Chapter Two
The family slept. He couldn't.
"?גם אתה לא ישן" Leah in the kitchen. "You're also not sleeping?"
"אני... אני רציתי מים." "I... I wanted water."
"שב. אני אכין לך תה." "Sit. I'll make you tea."
Her hands moved gracefully. He watched, hypnotized.
פרק שלישי | Chapter Three
"הבת שלך מדהימה." "Your daughter is amazing."
"אני יודעת." "I know."
"?את... את תמיד הייתדתייה?" "Did you... were you always religious?"
"אני חזרתי בתשובה אחרי שהתחתנתי. הבעל רצה." "I became religious after marriage. My husband wanted it."
"?ומה את רצית" "And what did you want?"
Silence. Then: "לא שאלו אותי." "No one asked me."
פרק רביעי | Chapter Four
The next Shabbat. The one after. He kept coming.
"?למה אתה תמיד מסתכל על אמא?" Yael asked. "Why do you always look at my mom?"
"אני לא." "I'm not."
"את שקרן." "You're a liar."
The next morning, she dumped him.
פרק חמישי | Chapter Five
A month later. A text from an unknown number.
"לאה פה. יעל סיפרה לי הכל. פגישה?" "Leah here. Yael told me everything. Meet?"
"?את בטוחה" "Are you sure?"
"לא בטוחה בכלום. אבל אני רוצה לדעת." "Not sure of anything. But I want to know."
They met. It was wrong. It was right. It was complicated.
