Safed Mysticism
Chapter One
The blue streets of Safed felt like another world. Maya had come seeking meaning.
"את מחפשת את האור," said Rav Shimon. "You're seeking the light."
"?איך אתה יודע" "How do you know?"
"אני רואה את הנשמה שלך. היא צמאה." "I see your soul. It's thirsty."
Chapter Two
Weeks of study. The Zohar, the Sefirot, the mysteries.
"האור הוא בתוכנו," he taught. "The light is within us."
"?איך מגיעים אליו" "How do you reach it?"
"דרך חיבור. דרך אהבה." "Through connection. Through love."
"?איזו אהבה" "What kind of love?"
He was silent. His eyes said everything.
Chapter Three
"אתה רב. זה אסור." "You're a rabbi. This is forbidden."
"אני אדם. וההלכה מסכימה עם חיבור קדוש." "I'm a man. And the law agrees with sacred connection."
"?זה קדוש" "Is this sacred?"
"כל מה שנעשה בכוונה טהורה קדוש." "Everything done with pure intention is sacred."
Chapter Four
In his study, surrounded by ancient books, mysticism became physical.
"!רב שמעון... אנחנו לא" "Rav Shimon... we're not—"
"שמעון. רק שמעון." "Shimon. Just Shimon."
"!שמעון... אני מרגישה... משהו עולה בי" "Shimon... I feel... something rising in me!"
"זה האור. תני לו לצאת." "That's the light. Let it out."
Chapter Five
She left Safed changed. Not religious, but spiritual. Not found, but finding.
"?למדתי קבלה" she asked on her last day. "Did I learn Kabbalah?"
"למדת יותר. למדת איך להתחבר." "You learned more. You learned how to connect."
"לאלוהים?" "To God?"
"לעצמך. זה אותו דבר." "To yourself. That's the same thing."
The End
In Safed, mysticism is in every corner. Sometimes, the greatest mystery is the connection between two people.
