The Pearl Diver's Secret
الفصلُ الأَوَّلُ: الغَوْصَةُ الأُولى
Chapter One: The First Dive
كانَ خَالِدٌ فَتًى فِي السَّابِعَةَ عَشْرَةَ مِنْ عُمُرِهِ، وَرِثَ حِرْفَةَ الغَوْصِ عَنْ آبائِهِ وَأَجْدادِهِ. فِي كُلِّ صَباحٍ، كانَ يَرْكَبُ القارِبَ الخَشَبِيَّ مَعَ رِفاقِهِ، يَبْحَثُونَ عَنِ اللُّؤْلُؤِ فِي أَعْماقِ البَحْرِ.
Khalid was a youth of seventeen years, having inherited the craft of diving from his fathers and grandfathers. Every morning, he would board the wooden boat with his companions, searching for pearls in the depths of the sea.
قالَ لَهُ أَبُوهُ ذاتَ يَوْمٍ: «يا بُنَيَّ، إِيَّاكَ وَالأَعْماقَ البَعِيدَةَ! فَإِنَّ فِيها أَسْرارًا لا يَنْبَغِي لِلإِنْسانِ أَنْ يَكْشِفَها.»
His father said to him one day: "O my son, beware of the distant depths! For in them are secrets that man should not uncover."
لَكِنَّ خالِدًا كانَ شُجاعًا وَفُضُولِيًّا، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لِيَرْضَخَ لِتَحْذِيراتِ الكِبارِ.
But Khalid was brave and curious, and would not yield to the warnings of his elders.
الفصلُ الثَّانِي: الكَهْفُ المُقَدَّسُ
Chapter Two: The Sacred Cave
فِي يَوْمٍ مِنَ الأَيَّامِ، غاصَ خالِدٌ أَعْمَقَ مِمَّا غاصَ أَحَدٌ مِنْ قَبْلُ. وَفَجْأَةً، رَأَى أَمامَهُ فُتْحَةً فِي الصَّخْرِ، تُشِعُّ مِنْها ضَوْءٌ أَزْرَقُ غَرِيبٌ.
One day, Khalid dived deeper than anyone had dived before. Suddenly, he saw before him an opening in the rock, from which emanated a strange blue light.
دَخَلَ الفُتْحَةَ فَوَجَدَ نَفْسَهُ فِي كَهْفٍ واسِعٍ تَحْتَ الماءِ، جُدْرانُهُ مُغَطَّاةٌ بِاللُّؤْلُؤِ الأَبْيَضِ وَالأَسْوَدِ وَالذَّهَبِيِّ.
He entered the opening and found himself in a vast underwater cave, its walls covered with white, black, and golden pearls.
وَفِي وَسَطِ الكَهْفِ، رَأَى تِمْثالاً حَجَرِيًّا لِامْرَأَةٍ جَمِيلَةٍ، تَحْمِلُ فِي يَدِها لُؤْلُؤَةً عَظِيمَةً كَالبَيْضَةِ.
And in the center of the cave, he saw a stone statue of a beautiful woman, holding in her hand a great pearl like an egg.
الفصلُ الثَّالِثُ: لَعْنَةُ المَلِكَةِ
Chapter Three: The Queen's Curse
حِينَ مَدَّ خالِدٌ يَدَهُ لِيَأْخُذَ اللُّؤْلُؤَةَ، سَمِعَ صَوْتًا يَتَرَدَّدُ فِي الماءِ: «مَنْ يَأْخُذُ كَنْزَ المَلِكَةِ، عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَحْمِيَ البَحْرَ إِلى الأَبَدِ!»
When Khalid extended his hand to take the pearl, he heard a voice echoing in the water: "Whoever takes the queen's treasure must protect the sea forever!"
ارْتَعَدَ خالِدٌ، لَكِنَّهُ أَخَذَ اللُّؤْلُؤَةَ وَصَعِدَ إِلى السَّطْحِ. وَمُنْذُ ذَلِكَ اليَوْمِ، صارَ حارِسًا لِلْبَحْرِ، يُعَلِّمُ الصَّيَّادِينَ كَيْفَ يَحْتَرِمُونَ أَعْماقَهُ وَأَسْرارَهُ.
Khalid trembled, but he took the pearl and ascended to the surface. And from that day, he became a guardian of the sea, teaching fishermen how to respect its depths and secrets.
وَاللُّؤْلُؤَةُ العَظِيمَةُ؟ أَخْفاها فِي مَكانٍ لا يَعْلَمُهُ إِلَّا اللهُ، حَتَّى لا يَطْمَعَ فِيها طامِعٌ.
And the great pearl? He hid it in a place known only to God, so that no greedy soul would covet it.
