كَهْفُ الكُنُوزِ

The Cave of Treasures

ثَلاثَةُ إِخْوَةٍ مِنْ نِزْوَى خَرَجُوا لِلصَّيْدِ فِي الجِبالِ. وَجَدُوا كَهْفًا مَخْفِيًّا مَلِيئًا بِالذَّهَبِ وَالجَواهِرِ!

Three brothers from Nizwa went hunting in the mountains. They found a hidden cave full of gold and jewels!

قالَ الأَكْبَرُ سالِمٌ: «سَنَأْخُذُ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ وَنُصْبِحُ أَغْنَى أَهْلِ عُمانَ!»

The eldest, Salim, said: "We shall take everything and become the richest in Oman!"

قالَ الأَوْسَطُ خالِدٌ: «نَعَمْ! سَأَشْتَرِي قَصْرًا وَخَدَمًا!»

The middle one, Khalid, said: "Yes! I shall buy a palace and servants!"

لَكِنَّ الأَصْغَرَ عَبْدَاللهِ سَكَتَ وَنَظَرَ إِلى الكَهْفِ بِقَلَقٍ.

But the youngest, Abdullah, was silent and looked at the cave with worry.

رَأَى عَبْدُاللهِ نَقْشًا عَلى جِدارِ الكَهْفِ: «خُذْ ما تَحْتاجُ لا ما تَطْمَعُ. الطَّمَعُ يُحَوِّلُ الذَّهَبَ إِلى رَمادٍ.»

Abdullah saw an inscription on the cave wall: "Take what you need, not what you crave. Greed turns gold to ash."

أَخْبَرَ إِخْوَتَهُ، لَكِنَّهُما ضَحِكا. قالَ سالِمٌ: «خُرافاتُ الجُهَلاءِ!» وَمَلَأَ أَكْياسَهُ بِالذَّهَبِ.

He told his brothers, but they laughed. Salim said: "Superstitions of fools!" and filled his bags with gold.

أَخَذَ عَبْدُاللهِ قِطْعَةً واحِدَةً صَغِيرَةً فَقَطْ، تَكْفِي لِشِراءِ بَعْضِ الأَغْنامِ.

Abdullah took only one small piece, enough to buy some sheep.

عادُوا إِلى القَرْيَةِ. فَتَحَ سالِمٌ وَخالِدٌ أَكْياسَهُما فَوَجَداها مَلِيئَةً بِالرَّمادِ!

They returned to the village. Salim and Khalid opened their bags and found them full of ash!

صَرَخا وَبَكَيا. نَظَرا إِلى قِطْعَةِ عَبْدِاللهِ: كانَتْ لا تَزالُ ذَهَبًا نَقِيًّا!

They screamed and wept. They looked at Abdullah's piece: it was still pure gold!

قالَ لَهُما: «الحِكْمَةُ القَدِيمَةُ لا تَكْذِبُ يا إِخْوَتِي. البَرَكَةُ فِي القَناعَةِ، لا فِي الطَّمَعِ.»

He said to them: "Ancient wisdom does not lie, my brothers. Blessing is in contentment, not in greed."
