The apartment was cheap because of the neighborhood. Maya didn't care.
"?את חרדית?" asked the man in black next to the mailboxes. "Are you ultra-Orthodox?"
"לא." "No."

פרק שני | Chapter Two
His name was Moshe. Married. Ten children.

"?יש לך ילדים?" he asked one day. "Do you have children?"
"לא. לא התחתנתי." "No. I didn't marry."
"?למה?" "Why?"
"לא מצאתי את מי שאני רוצה." "Didn't find who I want."
"?ואת יודעת מי את רוצה?" "And do you know who you want?"

"!אנחנו לא יכולים!" he whispered in the stairwell. "We can't!"
"אני יודעת." "I know."
"!יש לי אישה! ילדים! קהילה!" "I have a wife! Children! Community!"
"אני יודעת הכל." "I know everything."
"?אז למה את לא עוזבת?" "So why don't you leave?"
"כי גם אתה לא עוזב." "Because you don't leave either."
פרק חמישי | Chapter Five
She moved. To Tel Aviv. Far from temptation.
"?זה נגמר?" "Is it over?"
"זה אף פעם לא התחיל." "It never started."
"?אז למה זה כואב?" "So why does it hurt?"
"כי לפעמים הדברים שלא קורים כואבים יותר מהדברים שקורים." "Because sometimes things that don't happen hurt more than things that do."
